SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY AND SECURITY Social media platforms are constantly evolving, increasing the risk of misuse that can harm the integrity and reputation of our members, chapters, state societies, and NSDAR. Protecting the privacy, security, and reputation of individuals and the organization is a shared responsibility of social media administrators, chapter regents, state VIS, and state regents. Accounts may be cloned, hijacked, or hacked, and followers - including automated “bots” - may post inappropriate comments that escalate into harmful discussions. As these risks grow, so must our vigilance in safeguarding our members and DAR. As DAR members, we use ...
DIGITAL SECURITY Digital security is the practice of protecting your personal information, accounts, and devices from online threats. In simple terms, it’s about staying safe and private in the online world, similar to protecting your home and belongings in the physical world. In a world where everything is connected, your personal cyber safety is only as strong as the community’s collective defense, making every person a critical link in the security chain. Cyber threats aren’t a distant, abstract problem; they are a constant, invisible burglar at your digital doorstep, actively looking for a way to steal your identity, cripple your operations, or hold ...

With Ken Burns’ THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION capturing national attention, Daughters have a timely opportunity to engage the public’s curiosity about America’s founding stories. As viewers watch the lives of early Americans unfold, many are asking a natural question: “Could someone in my family have been part of this?” This is where we can shine. Share episode reactions, local patriot highlights, and your chapter's lineage moments across social media. Even a simple post—“This reminded me of my ancestor…”—can inspire someone else to explore their own roots. Be sure to include DAR’s free family-history link:

Your Own Chapter Pin!

As of today, six chapter pins have been developed and are being worn with pride by DAR members. Will your chapter be next? Your Insignia tells the journey of your life in DAR. From the offices you've held, to the important events signified on your ribbon, to the ancestor bar above your heart. Each pin is an important piece of your journey as you show your dedication and commitment to community and the DAR. DAR members may now expand their love of Insignia by creating identifying pins for their own chapters! The Pin Proposal Guidelines on the Insignia Committee page of the members site will explain how chapter members can create a pin for their DAR ...
The United States Navy began celebrating its 250th anniversary in January, but the founding of the Continental Navy on October 13, 1775, will be officially honored this fall. Today, the U.S. Navy is the world's largest naval force, with seven active fleets and approximately 400,000 active-duty and reserve men and women serving their country. The DAR "250th Birthday of the U.S. Navy" pin can be worn on the official DAR ribbon, or as a brooch or lapel pin. Honor your Navy relatives and friends this fall with this beautiful commemorative pin!
I t wasn’t until I began working as a National Vice Chair that I realized what goes on behind the scenes and how many Daughters contribute to making committees work. The National Chairs and Vice Chairs get their pictures on the National Website, but we have worked with other women who are somewhat anonymous to most of you. For the past three years, I have worked with Lesa Barker (Colorado), Aryssa Damron (D.C.), Liz Hawn (Idaho), Elizabeth Jones (Texas), Lyndsey Laminack (Texas, but a New York Daughter), Sherry Maxwell (Maryland), Julie Pittmann (Washington), Eileen Roberts (California, but moved to Ohio), Tara Rodi (Washington), and Michelle ...
Congratulations to the Arkansas State Society for the addition of your Outstanding America 250! page to your state website. While we didn’t re-evaluate the rest of your website, we studied this special page. We don’t normally recognize two sites for one month, but since we are “celebrating” America 250!, and your page is so well done, we wanted to give you special recognition for this page that really sparkles! We hope your page will inspire other states and chapters to create their own special America 250! section on their websites. Here are some of our thoughts about this page. Love your page! Loved reading about Arkansas history ...
Congratulations to this month’s May Website of the Month, the Wiltwyck Chapter, NSDAR, from Kingston, New York! This month we evaluated 12 websites, and at the conclusion of Continental Congress, a new group of volunteers will work with the next National Public Relations & Media Chair. We have evaluated 409 websites from 2022 - June 2025. Although most of us won't be the evaluators, we wish the next team the same enjoyment we have experienced reading about the work being done by chapters and states promoting the Daughters of the American Revolution. Creating a website is a great contribution to your chapter. We also are congratulating the Arkansas ...
We congratulate this month’s April Website of the Month , the Knickerbocker Chapter from New York, New York . You really are “spreading the news.” (Please excuse the quote…I couldn’t help myself.) Those of us on this committee have “met” a variety of Daughters through their websites since this contest began. Each chapter has shared the work they do, and while each has its own ways of demonstrating the chapter's work with historic preservation, education, and patriotism, we all recognize the importance of the service of all Daughters of the American Revolution. We are so proud of the work you do, and we know you will continue that work. Your websites are ...
We are pleased to congratulate the Brunswick Town Chapter, NSDAR , from Southport, North Carolina for being the March 2025 Website of the Month ! It’s exciting to see so many chapters creating and revising their websites. I know that searching for chapters is easier if prospective members can find our websites to actually see what we do. When DAR websites feature their members demonstrating their work emphasizing historic preservation, education, and patriotism , other women may be inspired to join us. If you haven’t created a website for your chapter, please consider it. If you need help, contact your state’s VIS chair and your state’s Public ...
It is with great pride and heartfelt appreciation that I announce Elizabeth “Beth” Denney Hill, as the recipient of the 2025 National Volunteer of the Year award. Her collaborative nature and positive attitude make her not only an invaluable team member, but also a true joy to work with. Please join me in congratulating Beth for this well-deserved award. Her service exemplifies the very best ...
We are pleased to congratulate the George Taylor Chapter, NSDAR, of Easton, Pennsylvania, for being selected the February 2025 Website of the Month ! Daughters have been busy creating and updating chapter websites, and that probably will continue. Our judges evaluated 26 websites for the month of February! We are currently looking at 20 websites for March, so you can imagine that VIS Committee members and this judging team are spending quite a bit of time to help chapters with this project. Those of you involved know how much goes into creating a website that tells your chapter’s story, and we certainly appreciate the work involved in making your communities ...
It’s always interesting to learn about the reasons behind the names of DAR chapters. Many are named for women, and this month’s Website of the Month is a chapter that selected their namesake as a “woman from American history who had been overlooked through time.” While they considered several women, they ultimately chose Phillis Wheatley. How appropriate that we announce on this first day of March, the January Website of the Month winner as the Phillis Wheatley Chapter, NSDAR, from Haymarket, Virginia ! Congratulations, to you! Our judges evaluated nine websites this month. Once again, we thank all of the chapters who have been creating new websites and ...
