Q: Are there any tutorial videos on how to use the app?
A: Yes! They are located on the on the Tutorials - Website & App page under the Help tab.
Q: Are there any resources available for me to share with my chapter/state members on how to use the app?
A: Yes! There are many resources available for download [here]. The members of DOC Committee leadership or your DOC State Chair are also available for live training, either in person or via Zoom, depending on location and schedules. To inquire about having one of us present to your chapter/state, email us at doccommunication@nsdar.org.
Q: I belong to DAR Facebook groups, I visit the DAR Members Website, and then I joined the DOC. Now you want me to download and use a DOC app, too. What are the advantages of the app?
A: The DOC app isn’t meant to replace any of the above platforms. However, it does have some advantages, the main one being that you can take the DOC and DAR with you wherever you go instead of having to log into it from your laptop or desktop computer. You can also choose to receive real-time notifications on your phone. If you are following an important topic on the DOC, you can keep up via the app. If you are waiting on important information from DAR, such as, say, Continental Congress hotel reservations opening, you will receive an alert from the app in real time.
Q: The DOC app doesn’t do everything I need it to do. How do I get around that when I’m not at my computer?
A: We’re aware that there are limitations, and we are working with our vendor to further develop the app. In the meantime, you can add a shortcut to the full DOC website on your phone so that it functions similarly to an app. You’ll find those instructions here.
Q: I’ve never used the DOC website and don’t want to, but I’m interested in using the app. Can I do that?
A. Technically, yes, but your usability (features and functions) will be limited. We recommend setting up a profile on the DOC website first, and then moving over to the app. For example, you can only reply to a post on the app if you’ve first joined the community in which it appears on the DOC website.
Q: How do I link my profile on the DOC to my profile on the DOC app?
A: In short, you can’t. They are not linked and do not “talk” to each other, so you will need to reconfigure your profile on the App to reflect your profile on the main DOC website.
Q: Can I tag someone on the app?
A: No, you are not able to tag someone on the app.
Q: I have questions and/or suggestions about the app. How do I contact the admins?
A: There are two different ways: From the main page of the app, click “Menu” along the bottom toolbar. Scroll to the bottom to the heading “DOC Help Central.” Click the box that says “Contact DOC Support?” Fill out the form with the type of support that you want and hit “Submit.” You can post your question in the DOC Committee Community, either through the app or on the webpage.
Q: I’d like to submit a request for a promo on the app. How do I do that?
A: The DOC Alerts, Announcements and Promotions Policy (DOC-WP-2002) details how to request a promo on the App. Currently, only Executive Officers and National Committee Chairs are eligible to submit a request. A copy of this policy can be requested from the DOC National Chair at community@nsdar.org.

Q: How do I add a shortcut to my main app screen?
A:
There are two ways:
-
Press the dotted squares with the plus sign inside it on the main page. That will pop up a screen asking if you’d like to “Add Shortcuts from the Menu.” Click “Take Me There” to access the menu, where you can select your shortcuts. Press and hold whichever square you’d like to make a shortcut, and a pop-up will prompt you to “Add Shortcut.” Press that and it will be added.
-
Navigate to the “Menu” page from the main page by pressing the appropriate button along the bottom toolbar and then following the same steps as mentioned above.
Q: How do I remove a shortcut from my main app screen?
A: On the main page, press and hold down on the shortcut you want to remove. That will pop up a screen asking if you’d like to “Delete Shortcut.” Click “Delete” and your shortcut will be removed.
Q: I don’t like the order of my shortcuts. Can I rearrange them?
A: There is no easy way to rearrange shortcuts. You would need to remove the shortcuts and then add them back in the desired order.
Q: I want to add a shortcut to a specific DOC Community. How do I do that?
A: The app only allows for a limited number of menu options. In order to accommodate everyone, we would have to add every community. Due to the large number of communities and limited menu options, we are unable to do so at this time. An alternative would be to create a website shortcut on your phone for one-click access to a DOC Community. Please see the tutorial for
How to Add a Shortcut to Your Smartphone.

A: From the main page, click “My Account” in the toolbar along the bottom. Then click the gear icon in the upper-right corner. Click “Preferences.” Toggle “Organization alerts” on or off.
Q: How do I change my community notification settings?
A: From the main page, click on “Community” in the toolbar along the bottom. Then click the circle with three dots icon in the upper-right corner. Click “Manage Notifications.” You can choose to Enable or Disable for all of the communities that you have joined, or you can select a different configuration for each community. NOTE: This does not change what emails you are receiving from the DOC.
Q: Can I delete/remove an alert?
A: No. You can only read an alert, which will remove the red dot from the alert. It will remain on the app.

Q: My photos keep uploading sideways on the app! How do I fix them?
A: This is more likely to happen if you are uploading/posting from an Apple phone, which uses HEIC files in addition to JPG, GIF, and PNG. Check to see if your image is an HEIC (likely the culprit). To convert an HEIC file to another type, simply email the image file to yourself. It will automatically convert into a JPG. Then save and upload that image file. There is also the HEIC to JPEG - Image Converter app available in the Apple App Store.
Q: Why can’t I upload photos on the App?
A: At this time, Android users are not able to upload a photo or file during an initial post on the App, but are able to when replying to a post. To share an image on the app, start by making an initial post. Then, reply to your own post and upload the picture. Our vendor is working on correcting this.
Q: When writing a discussion/question, I am unable to scroll the text to see everything that is written, as the keyboard is in the way.
A: This is a known issue that is slated to be fixed in a future release of the app.
Q: I receive an error when I try to post to a community of which I am a member. Why?
A: This usually happens when you are automatically added as a member of a community, but have not gone into the DOC website and set up your email notification settings for that community. If you have done that and are still receiving the error, please fill out the contact us form and send the DOC Support Team a screenshot of the issue.
Q: I am unable to respond to a discussion/post from notifications unless it is my own post. Help?
A: This issue has been reported to the developer and is being evaluated. If you click on the three dots in a circle at the top and click on ”View on the web” it will take you to the DOC website, and you can respond to the post there.
